Ontario Steam Heritage Museum
Preserving
Canada's Steam Era
DAWN OF INDUSTRY
There is much to see at the Museum in addition to the Steam Locomotive Engine displays. With the exception of the specialized steam engines, the steam traction engines, portable steam engines and stationary steam engines all provided power to some form of machinery or equipment. The Musesum provides a home to several private collections of Vintage machinery & equipment. The collections include a variety of manufacturing equipment built and used in the Ontario area. Some examples are a full scale lumber saw mill, and a complete and varied collection of shingle mills.
The tremendous power was harnessed for specialized construction equipment like the "steam roller" and "steam shovel". Other uses were to provide power to electrical generators and to provide power to marine engines.
